The two are of Pakistani origin. They entered the country illegally about four years ago, and so far have worked mainly in agricultural work. According to the publication, the two arrived in Athens during the last year, and stayed in a rented apartment in the city.

As part of the operation, they worked under a local organization led by another Pakistani, who was previously accused of four different murders on criminal grounds. The organization operated on behalf of the Quds Force, which belongs to the Revolutionary Guards in Tehran.

The head of the local organization chose the two, among other things, because they had no criminal record. They were arrested about a month ago after more than three months of surveillance. Also according to the publication, they were promised a salary of 10,000-15,000 euros for each murder. They even negotiated different amounts they would receive, depending on the identity of the future victim.
