The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) carries out enhanced inspections in food production and trade facilities, egg packing centers, food wholesale warehouses, catering establishments and retail outlets, markets and exchanges, in connection with the upcoming public holidays (May 1 – International Labor Day, Easter and St. George’s Day). This was announced by the press center of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

In the period from today (04/08/2024) to 05/08/2024, inclusive, there will be increased control over the production and trade of foods traditionally offered for the holidays (lamb meat, crackers, eggs, including dyed eggs, fresh vegetables, etc. ), as well as egg dye. The origin and proper storage of raw materials and food, correct labeling and marking will be monitored.

With regard to the supply of carcass lamb meat, the presence and color of the health mark will be controlled (blue color – the meat is of Bulgarian origin, red color – of origin other than Bulgarian), the correct provision of information to consumers about the country of origin of the meat . The inspectors will also monitor for the correct presentation of information in cases of offering thawed as well as chilled lamb meat.

The way of storage, labeling and marking of eggs will be observed. In order to strengthen monitoring, samples will be taken from every consignment of eggs entering the borders, both from third countries and from EU countries.

During the weekends and public holidays 05/01-05/06/2024, inclusive, duty inspectors will be provided in all ODBH to ensure the activity of the control body and to respond to citizens’ signals.
