There is a food that is kind to the body and to the planet at the same time. an intelligent food, suitable for the Anthropocene, the geological epoch in which human beings influence the events of the earth. The food that will save us, as best-selling author Eliana Liotta tells us in her new book, demonstrates how indispensable an ecological change at the table is to help the earth and health. Two appointments with Liotta are scheduled in Salento. It starts with the presentation of the book on June 25 in Piazza Castello dei Trane in Tricase (beginning at 7pm). Ambient activism changes

To save the environment it is no longer enough, even if it helps, to ride a bike, buy a hybrid car and remember to turn off the lights. It is not enough to think only of oil and coal, as the UN warns. Global warming will not be able to stop without changing the food system, on which one third of greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for the rise in temperatures, depend. But the extraordinary aspect of an ecological turnaround at the table that the lunches and dinners invoked to curb pollution and the crazed climate are exactly the same ones that protect health and boost the immune system. We tend to forget about it: we are parts of the whole. And today food represents a way to reformulate a balance between man and the planet.

Sustainable development is also achieved at the table

The food that will save us presents for the first time a reflection that starts from a dual scientific approach, ecological and nutritional, with the advice of two excellent partners: the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (Eiee, European Institute for economy and the environment) and the Eat Project of the San Donato Group Foundation. Five diets proposed, both ecocarnivorous and vegetable, capable at the same time of mitigating polluting emissions and improving the line and the state of health. Hundreds of answers offered in the essay to curiosities about the impact of food, from intensive farming to fishing, from avocado cultivation to prototypes of synthetic steak.
