The Foreign Exchange Office reserves personalized treatment for MREs (Mr. Bencheikh)

Casablanca – The acting director general of the Foreign Exchange Office, Driss Bencheikh, affirmed that the Office, as part of its 2022-2026 strategic action plan, is committed to providing personalized treatment to Moroccans living abroad (MRE).

This firm commitment is materialized by the multiplication of information and awareness-raising actions among MREs, based on a strategy focused on proximity and diversification of communication channels, Mr. Bencheikh explained in an interview with MAP. In this sense, he said that the Office des Changes, during the summer season, strengthens its reception, information and support system intended for MREs. “Object of a High and constant Royal solicitude, Moroccans around the world benefit from special attention from the Office des Changes, which has worked, over the years, to put in place an attractive, flexible and advantageous regulatory framework in their favor,” he said. Mr. Bencheikh also stressed that in recent years, the Office has engaged in a process of easing and facilitating foreign exchange regulations and has resolutely committed to a dynamic of continuous improvement of its regulatory monitoring and supervision tools for foreign exchange transactions. To this end, he recalled the implementation of targeted and adapted measures in favor of citizens wishing to travel abroad for various reasons, noting that the objective is to guarantee Moroccans greater flexibility and greater ease in covering their expenses incurred abroad. Developed in perfect harmony with the evolution of the economic and financial situation of the Kingdom, the provisions of the foreign exchange regulations relating to foreign currency allocations intended for individuals aim to facilitate citizens’ access to foreign currencies and to combat the use of illegal practices, Mr. Bencheikh noted. Thus, he indicated that since 2022, a single allocation scheme, “the allocation for personal travel”, has been put in place to allow Moroccans to easily cover their expenses relating to personal travel abroad of all kinds (tourism, Umrah and Hajj, medical care, etc.). With a basic amount of 100,000 dirhams per year, “the allocation for personal travel” can be increased by the equivalent of 30% of the IR (income tax), the total amount not to exceed 300,000 dirhams per person per year.
