The ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries are meeting today in Brussels to discuss Ukraine, Gaza and Venezuela, DPA reported.
The meeting is informal, which means that the ministers are not expected to make official statements at the end of it. It will be led by the EU’s number one diplomat, Josep Borrell.
The meeting was originally supposed to take place in Budapest, but it was later decided to take place in Brussels in protest of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to Russia in July.
During the meeting, there will also be a conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
The ministers will also attend a lunch with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, where they will discuss EU-Turkey relations and other global issues of mutual interest.
Then Sigrid Kaag, the coordinator of the humanitarian efforts of the United Nations for the residents of Gaza, will join the meeting.
Finally, the ministers will also discuss the political crisis in Venezuela after the presidential elections on July 28. Last week, Venezuela’s Supreme Court declared that Nicolas Maduro was re-elected president, but countries such as the United States, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and others said the vote was rigged and that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez was the actual winner. .
