Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas told the news portal “Delfi” that the decision on Ž. Tomkaus was accepted after evaluating his long-term work in the system.
“Z. Tomus was appointed to the position taking into account more than 20 years of experience in the national defense system, the projects he implemented in the field of security and defense policy of strategic importance, and his subject competences, which lead to the successful representation of Lithuania in international professional activities. <...> The former vice-minister has been appointed to a lower-level position – defense advisor at the Lithuanian Embassy in the USA,” the Ministry of National Defense (KAM) said in a comment.
On Tuesday, the Minister of National Defense regarding Ž. Tomkaus applied to the Supreme Commission for Official Ethics (VTEK) and says he is waiting for the commission’s conclusion.
Ž himself Tomkus noted that he paid for the services provided to him at the military rehabilitation center, but neither he nor the ministry disclosed how many times the former vice minister visited this center.
“My visits to the Military Rehabilitation Center in Druskininkai were officially registered. I believe, as do all others serving or working in the national defense system, who have visited or are visiting the center. I have paid for the services provided,” he replied in the Delfi comment.
Position of Defense Counselor at the Embassy of Lithuania in the United States of America Ž. Tomkus has been going since August 10.
