The businessman Francisco José ‘Pachi’ Izco, former president of Osasuna, died this Friday in Pamplona at the age of 77. Under his mandate, between 2002 and 2012, the rojillo club lived its golden age. During that period, Osasuna played in the 2005 Copa del Rey final, played in the Champions League qualifiers and reached the UEFA semifinals in 2007. They also finished fourth in the 2006 League championship, equaling Osasuna’s best historical ranking.

Beyond his sporting successes, in recent years at the helm of Osasuna Pachi Izco’s career has been tarnished by various legal scandals. Izco was sentenced to 23 months in prison, although he did not go to jail, and to pay 1.15 million euros for crimes of documentary falsification and misappropriation.

“The club regrets his death. He rest in peace. Goian bego,” Osasuna wrote on his social networks after the death of the entity’s top mandator, which he joined 21 years ago after winning the elections with the Mexican Javier Aguirre as coach.
