Grisham served as press secretary to then-US First Lady Melania Trump from 2017 to 2019, before serving as White House press secretary and communications director for nine months. She later became Trump’s representative again.
Grisham said in Chicago that she had previously been a passionate supporter of Trump. “I was one of his closest advisers. The Trump family has become my family,” she said. She celebrated Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years with them.
“I saw him when the cameras were off,” Grisham said, referring to the former president. “Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters.” He is said to have no empathy, no morals, the truth is not important to him.
Trump always told her, “It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie. Say it often enough and people will believe you.” Grisham said she resigned after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol because she didn’t want to be “part of this madness.”
After leaving Trump’s team, Grisham wrote a book and has been an outspoken critic of the former president ever since.
