This visit will allow Internet users to virtually access the Kasbah of the Oudayas in its entirety, including places not open to the public, an exclusive virtual visit that the Foundation offers to the general public, the Foundation indicates in a press release.
Through these visits, adds the same source, the visitor will have the opportunity to discover the history of the Kasbah and the civilizations that have succeeded one another there, while learning about the main changes that the Kasbah has undergone due to its strategic geographical location.
In addition to the four languages available to visitors for this guided tour (Arabic, French, English and Spanish), guaranteeing seamless access in sound, photos and written text, the Foundation offers the opportunity to experience the experience through a self-guided tour to explore the Kasbah without a guide.
The implementation of the digitalization project of the Kasbah of the Oudayas aims to strengthen the missions of the Foundation in terms of preserving the cultural heritage of the city of Rabat, specifies the press release, noting that “the objective of this operation goes beyond a simple virtual visit of the heritage sites”.
This immersive visit “allows us to preserve all the details of the heritage sites, thanks to a topographical survey of the site using specialized equipment and modern technologies, making it possible to capture all its particularities (architectural, technical, etc.) down to the millimeter,” it adds.
The digitalisation of the Kasbah des Oudayas constitutes the second stage of the heritage digitalisation programme, supervised by the Foundation, which has already worked previously on the digitalisation of the Fort de Rottembourg, as part of a pilot project which has attracted keen interest from the general public and stakeholders in the sector.
The Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat also noted that the choice of digital has emerged as a main awareness-raising tool, thus encouraging it to digitize cultural heritage using a three-level approach.
The first level, it is explained, consists of encouraging the digitalization of cultural assets, emphasizing that the Foundation ensures to combine the efforts of stakeholders and encourage them to digitalize cultural assets, within the framework of multilateral partnerships with various institutions specialized in digitalization technologies and preservation of cultural heritage.
As for the second level, it concerns the promotion of the creation of digital platforms that make heritage available to the general public, institutions and university and academic circles, for recreational, professional or research purposes, with a view to improving access to culture.
As for the third level, it provides educational tools for cultural mediation. In this regard, the Foundation develops various educational tools (virtual tours, explanatory videos, augmented reality) to promote cultural mediation and preserve collective memory.
The virtual tour of the Kasbah des Oudayas is accessible via the Foundation’s website, concludes the press release.
