The UN Human Rights Council warned that both the Supreme Court of Justice and the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela lack impartiality and independence and accused the Venezuelan government of undue interference.
The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, referred in harsh terms to the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice from Venezuela of ratify the victory, without yet presenting the electoral recordsof Nicolás Maduro in the last presidential elections in Venezuela.
Likewise, the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Organization (UN) warned this Thursday about the Lack of impartiality and independence of the highest court of justice in Venezuela and the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela.
This was stated by the UN when referring to the report prepared by the so-called Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, according to which The Nicolás Maduro regime exercises tight control over both entities.
Through a video shared through the UN account on X, the members of the mission, Patricia Tappatá Valdez, Francisco Cox Vial and Marta Valiñas, warned “about the lack of independence and impartiality of the Supreme Court of Justice and the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, who have played a role within the repressive machinery of the State“.
UN accused Maduro’s government of undue interference
Elaborating on the issue, Marta Valiñas stated that “the Government exercises undue interference in decisions of the TSJ through direct messages to magistrates and public statements by Nicolás Maduro and Diosdado Cabello“.
For his part, Francisco Cox Vial recalled that “in 2022, the National Assembly modified the membership of the Judicial Nominations Committee, to be controlled by the same Assembly, with a government majorityand elected the current 20 judges of the TSJ.”
“The current president of the TSJ and its Electoral Chamber, Caryslia Beatriz Rodríguez Rodríguez is a member of the Government party and has held elected positions“, he added on the point.
Meanwhile, Patricia Tappatá stressed that “the current president of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso, has been a deputy of the National Assembly, representing the Government party“.
He added that in his role as General Controller, Elvis Amoroso himself “He was responsible for the arbitrary disqualification of María Corina Machado and other opposition leaders“.
Maria Corina Machado and the UN report on Venezuela
Once the UN mission’s report was known, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, shared it through her social media accounts, while stating that “the people spoke, popular sovereignty is respected“.
“The UN Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela issues a new statement stating that both The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and the National Electoral Council (CNE) lack impartiality and independence, and have played a role within the repressive machinery of the State“.
And along with thanking the mission’s “firm and unequivocal” position, María Corina Machado assured that “There is no maneuver that can grant an iota of legitimacy to Nicolás Maduro, in the face of the coup d’état against the Constitution that they intend to perpetrate.“.
The harsh response of President Gabriel Boric
Once the UN mission report was known, President Gabriel Boric said that “the dictatorship of Venezuela is not the left”.
Through his X account, the Chilean president stated that “today the Venezuelan Supreme Court has finished consolidating the fraud. The Maduro regime obviously welcomes with enthusiasm its sentence that will be marked by infamy. There is no doubt that we are facing a dictatorship that falsifies elections, represses those who think differently and is indifferent to the largest exile in the world, comparable only to that of Syria as a result of a war.“.
“I have looked into the eyes of thousands of Venezuelans who are calling for democracy in their homeland and who today are being slammed with another door. Chile does not recognize this false self-proclaimed victory of Maduro and company“, Boric added.
He then said that “we will surely receive (as usual) insults from their authorities because of our stance. They don’t know that as Huidobro said, the adjective when it does not give life, killsand they have murdered the word democracy“.
