In some regions, the lodgings are sold out for the spring holidays, and the booking rate is already very high for the summer. Since the health crisis, the formula has become more and more attractive. Report in the Hérault.

A family of regulars finds for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic the gîte of Isabelle Thillaye du Boullay, in Gignac (Hérault). They do not imagine their holidays elsewhere. “We have almost all the daily comforts, in terms of cooking a little bit, we are a little bit independent”, confides Stéphanie Lebruman, the tenant. More and more French people prefer this type of accommodation. Isabelle Thillaye du Boullay’s gîte is full until the end of August, which is unheard of for the owner.

In the department of Hérault, 70% of the lodgings are already reserved for the summer. In Maraussan (Hérault), the figure is close to 100% for Marie-Paule Théron, owner of the Carmedoule estate. “In addition, I have long stays this year”, she says. She also observes a change in clientele, with more French people since the Covid-19 crisis. The year 2022 promises to be historic for gites. According to the Gîtes de France network, almost half of the accommodation is already reserved for the summer.
