The French Althéa Laurin (-73 kg) and Magda Wiet-Hénin (-67 kg) were crowned taekwondo world champions on Wednesday in Baku, just over a year before the Paris Olympics.

The 21-year-old Laurin dominated Britain’s Rebecca McGowan in the final, after winning Worlds silver in 2021. She won Olympic bronze in 2021 in Tokyo.

Wiet-Hénin, 27, also vice-world champion in 2021, beat Jordanian Julyana Al-Sadeq for the gold medal. She had been eliminated in the round of 16 of the Games in 2021.
