by times news cr

“This is the first time that a leading magazine on the sea has devoted such importance to Morocco in its maritime dimension, from the blue economy to geostrategic aspects, including fishing, the environment and oceanography,” confided to MAP the French geopolitician, Aymeric Chauprade, who coordinated this special issue alongside Francis Vallat, Founder and Honorary President of the French and European maritime clusters.

“To our knowledge, this is the first time that the great maritime dimension of Morocco has been explored by a leading French and international magazine, allowing Moroccan and French officials and representatives to illustrate their conviction of this particular vocation of the Cherifian kingdom, underlined in November 2020 by King Mohammed VI during the 45th anniversary of the Green March”, notes Francis Vallat, also president of the Editorial Committee and Strategy of Marine&Océns.

This reference issue “Morocco and the Sea” brings together high-quality contributions from French and Moroccan personalities, business leaders as well as analysts and researchers who have explored the maritime dimension of Morocco and shared their perspective, their experience and their desire for cooperation.

The analyses and ambitions expressed in this issue allow us to “confirm the observation that the future of Morocco – the leading fishing country in Africa, with 3,500 km of coastline, an EEZ of over a million km2 and the largest container port in the Mediterranean – undoubtedly lies at sea”, states Francis Vallat in the editorial of this special issue.

They also make it possible to highlight “the diversity of assets and actions undertaken so that it can face the challenges of the blue economy which are its opportunity and its challenge”, he said.

This special issue brings together French and Moroccan personalities. These include the Minister of the Sea Annick Girardin, the Founder of the French Maritime Cluster Francis Vallat, the President of CMA-CGM Rodolphe Saadé and the President of IFREMER, the French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea, François Houllier.

The magazine also publishes interviews with three Moroccan ministers: Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, and Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

The magazine also publishes an interview with Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries.

With this special issue dedicated to Morocco, Marine & Oceans is inaugurating a collection dedicated to countries around the world wishing to assert their maritime vocation and implement a proactive maritime policy worthy of the name.
