A symbolic fact which marks the new habits of the French. Fast food is now dethroning traditional catering, with table service. Our colleagues from RTL reveal, this Thursday, the first conclusions of the 2023 edition of the “restoration” Study by Gira Conseil, specialist in catering. This study presents, each year, “all circuits of out-of-home food consumption in figures and analyzes trends in the sector,” explains Gira.

While around fifteen years ago, the turnover of traditional catering represented 60% of the overall turnover of catering, the trend is reversing. Thus, 55% of catering turnover is now generated by fast food.

Once a month for 45% of French people

Still according to the study, almost one in two French people, 45% to be exact, frequent a fast food restaurant at least once a month. Cheaper and sometimes more practical, boosted by the rise of delivery applications, fast food benefits from an increasingly varied offering and is therefore now at the heart of the habits of the French.
