The boss of French rugby is counting on Fabien Galthié at the head of the France team despite elimination in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The defeat of the French team at home in the quarter-finals of the World Cup against South Africa on Sunday (29-28) does not call into question the presence of Fabien Galthié at the head of the selection. Even though the Blues were eliminated for the third time in a row at this stage of the competition, the former scrum half received the confidence of Florian Grill, the president of the French Rugby Federation.
«The question of his future at the head of the XV of France absolutely does not arise. We are on the same line with Jean-Marc Lhermet (vice-president in charge of high level). Fabien, it’s a very nice meeting. I was very positively impressed by everything I saw about the functioning of this team and this staff», explained the successor of Bernard Laporte interviewed by Le Parisien. «It’s not one night’s defeat that changes anything», added the leader welcoming a “phenomenal progress» of the French team under the orders of Galthié.
Galthié is under contract until 2028
Sunday evening, after the meeting, the coach had already discussed his future, ruling out the possibility of leaving his post despite the immense disappointment. “I have a contract that runs until June 2028“, he slipped into a smile.
