Spending on spring break this year has increased by “37% compared to 2019 and 39% compared to 2022”, indicates Monday, May 8 on franceinfo Jean-Pierre Mas, president of Travel Companies, as the spring vacation period ends for students in zone C, the last zone on leave. Jean-Pierre Mas justifies these “much larger budgets” by the end of health constraints and their consequences: “The French who have been forced for three years want to travel; those who have the means want to move around, to enjoy the holidays, but there is a part of the population who could not leave for reasons economic”, underlines the boss of Travel Companies.

During these holidays, not only the French “spent much more than in 2019 and 2022”, but they also “displaced despite price increase”. Among the destinations popular with the French, we find “the south of France” as well as “European capitals and major cities near France”as “in Greece, Spain and Italy, which are as usual the top three spring break destinations”, explains Jean-Pierre Mas.

A very high average basket for this summer

Jean-Pierre Mas also welcomes good forecasts for future summer holidays. It evokes “an increase in reservations of 8% compared to the same date in 2019”. He would like to point out that “this does not mean that there will be 8% more French people who will go on vacation this summer. It means that there is anticipation” from vacationers who have “fear of rising prices” and who know “the longer you wait, the more expensive it is”. For these summer holidays, which should start on July 8 for all school zones, the average basket is progressing “by 25%, which is relatively high”, indicates the president of Travel Companies. Jean-Pierre Mas therefore observes that “those who can afford to go on vacation, take longer and more expensive vacations”.
