Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has cast doubt on his participation in a debate with Democrat Kamala Harris on September 10.

On Sunday, on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused ABC of bias, writing: “I wonder why he would do the debate against Kamala Harris on that network?”

In a statement on Monday, the vice president’s campaign team said the disagreements with the Republican candidate’s advisors were due to the handling of the microphones.

“We believe that both candidates’ microphones should be on for the entire debate. We believe that Trump’s advisers prefer the microphone to be muted because they do not believe that their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes,” said Brian Fallon, one of Harris’s advisers.

During the June 27 CNN debate between Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, each candidate’s microphone was cut off when it was not their turn to speak at the request of the 81-year-old president.

But according to the Politico website, Kamala Harris, who replaced him in the race for the White House, prefers to have the microphones on all the time, as is usually the case in presidential debates, because her rival is prone to invective and inappropriate interruptions.

Joe Biden’s disastrous performance has condemned a candidacy that was already suffering from weak results in the polls.

Kamala Harris has a slight lead in the polls but must maintain her momentum and widen the gap with Donald Trump before the November elections.
