“This is the strength of GEiEG”. It was the way the new sports director of the Group, Adrià Bertran, defined the presentation ceremony of the 22 sections that filled the Lluís Bachs pavilion this evening with the little more than 2,000 athletes mobilized by the club. Betran, 28 years old and born in Bellver de Cerdanyahas been chosen to implement a work system and point out the common path of all the sections: “mark what the work guidelines should be with a common methodology applied to each sport, but that if you see a basketball team and a football one, you should be clear that they belong to the GEiEG because of their way of doing things”, he detailed.

The sections of skating and gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic) have been in charge of opening the presentation of sections with an inaugural show. A video of all the sections doing their activity had been shown before. After a beating, the different athletes have been parading around the track forming part of each section. The parliaments of Francesc Cayuela, president of the GEiEG; Anna Julià, representative in Girona of the General Secretariat of Sport, and the second deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, Quim Ayats, closed the event.

The new GEiEG sports director, Adrià Betran, had practiced alpine skiing (participated in a junior Olympics) and studied Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in Lleida. “I was looking for a professional change, I received the GEiEG proposal, and after a selection process they chose me”, he says. Bertran has experience in the management of sports and leisure facilities and in the organization of events. He now takes on the responsibility of running a club with 22 sections. He assures that “the challenge is great, it certainly impresses at first but it is exciting. You have to organize things a lot and generate a way of working». In addition to implementing a club methodology, Bertran also intends to “bet very strongly on grassroots and training sports, which is where our future athletes will come from, enhancing the sports school and school promotion” . They will also be by the side of reference teams, such as Women’s League 2 basketball, “for everything they need”.

For now today the GEiEG has exhibited “muscle” showing off the strength of its athletes and the 22 sections: athletics, basketball, billiards, adapted sport, squash, skiing, football, rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, hockey, judo, mountain, swimming & water polo, paddle, skating, fishing, rugby, tennis and triathlon. One more season, from Girona, throughout the State.
