The General Electricity Company sent two urgent letters to the Attorney General and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, warning of the seriousness of the current situation due to the shortage of liquid fuel supplies to power generation stations across the country.

The company explained in its letter to the Attorney General that the shortage of fuel, whether natural gas or diesel, constitutes a major technical problem for the public network, which leads to the loss of large amounts of electrical energy and negatively affects the stability of the network and the company’s ability to meet consumers’ needs.

The company added that the continuation of this shortage may lead to partial or total blackouts, which will greatly affect the daily lives of citizens and various economic, industrial and agricultural activities.

The company indicated that it had previously sent several correspondences to the National Oil Corporation and Brega Oil Marketing Company to provide the necessary quantities of operating fuel for the generating stations in the public network, the last of which was the correspondence addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation dated 09/01/2024 AD.

In its letter to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, the General Electricity Company sent an urgent appeal to provide the necessary quantities of diesel to a number of production stations, especially the stations (West Tripoli – Zawiya – South Tripoli – Zahra – University District), which depend on the production of the Zawiya refinery from the Sharara field crude, which has recently stopped.

The company has determined the daily quantities required to supply these stations:

  • West Tripoli 4000 cubic meters
  • Double corner 4000 cubic meters
  • South Tripoli 2500 cubic meters
  • Zahraa 2500 cubic meters
  • University campus 500 cubic meters

The company also pointed out the needs of other diesel stations:

  • Tobruk 3000 cubic meters
  • Misurata double 2000 cubic meters
  • North Benghazi 2000 cubic meters
  • Kufra 350 cubic meters

The company called for providing the required quantities of fuel through marine tankers and working to resume work in the Sharara oil field as soon as possible.

The General Electricity Company stressed the seriousness of the current situation, especially with the summer season, which witnesses a significant increase in electricity consumption, which may lead to a large deficit in covering the increasing demand.
