On Tuesday, Prosecutor General Juris Stukāns met with the “Joint List” (AS) faction of the Saeima, which wanted to question him about legality in government decisions, including airBaltic.

After the meeting, Stukāns said that the prosecutor’s office needs to check the legality of the decisions, so the evaluation has started.

The Prosecutor General also noted that the investigation related to the case of the private planes used by the former Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņas (JV) will be concluded in the near future.

As reported, on September 2, information appeared in “Firmas.lv” that, in preparation for the initial public offering (IPO) process, the share capital of the Latvian national airline “airBaltic” will be reduced by 571.293 million euros, as well as the company’s existing share structure will be simplified.

According to the regulations of the share capital reduction, the share capital of “airBaltic” so far is 596.473 million euros, thus the share capital of “airBaltic” after the reduction will be 25.179 million euros.

On the same day, representatives of “airBaltic” informed the LETA agency that on August 30, the government looked into questions about “airBaltic” preparing for an IPO. Later it became known that the government agreed in the closed part of the meeting on August 30 that the state should retain at least 25% plus one share in the company’s capital after the IPO of “airBaltic”.

Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens (P) explained that currently there are no negotiations with the strategic investor of “airBaltic” about the sale of a controlling stake, but about obtaining a minority stake before the IPO or on the way to the IPO, as well as possibly participating in the IPO.

The potential investor is a well-known company to all of us, it follows from the above statement of the Minister of Economy Viktoras Valaiņš (ZZS).

“airBaltic” carried a total of 4.536 million passengers last year, which is 35.7% more than in 2022, and operated 44,100 flights, which is 18.3% more than a year earlier.
