In a statement issued following the meetings held on 17 and 18 June in Baghdad by its General Secretariat and its Permanent Bureau, the Union stressed that “the Moroccan autonomy plan within the framework of Moroccan national sovereignty represents the appropriate political settlement of this artificial conflict.”

The Union also warned of the extreme danger posed by the intensification of conflicts, disputes and armed clashes in some Arab countries.

In this regard, the body called for an immediate end to the fighting in Sudan and a return to dialogue as a civilized method of managing and resolving disputes.

On the other hand, the General Union of Arab Journalists referred to the difficult circumstances that the Arab world is going through, noting that “over time, it turns out that all the projects of unity, political reform and economic and social development have failed.”

She also condemned the fact that “the Zionist occupation continues to commit its terrorist crimes against the unarmed Palestinian people, with the explicit blessing of the international community.”

To confront and respond to external dangers, it is necessary to strengthen internal fronts and mobilize national capacities, she notes, urging the Arab media to play a pioneering role in winning this bet, because they are capable of paving the way for public debates that carry ideas and alternatives within the framework of pluralism, difference and diversity in a way that roots unity.

On the professional level, the Union recalled the major issues and challenges facing the Arab press, “while the crisis is getting worse and worse, in the absence of solutions and reform programs.”

She stressed that the written press in Arab countries is facing an unprecedented crisis that threatens its future, in the face of the advancement of alternative media, recalling that the media in Arab countries are no less important than the issues of education, health and development in general and that the exacerbation of the crisis in this sector threatens the future of Arab countries.
