Clashes between the two sides continued in the capital, Khartoum, on Monday, despite the fragile ceasefire being extended for another three days.

If the talks do take place, they will initially focus on establishing a “stable and credible” ceasefire monitored by national and international observers, Pertes said. A series of temporary ceasefires over the past week have eased the fighting in only a few areas, but in others fierce fighting is forcing civilians to flee their homes.

Aid groups have been trying to restore the flow of aid to the country, where nearly a third of the 46 million people relied on international aid before the violence erupted.

Since April 15, at least 530 people have lost their lives and more than 4,500 have been injured in the fighting between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group “Rapid Support Forces”.
