The Germans have eight months to make colossal gas savings

by time news

To meet European gas reduction targets, Germany will have to work harder. A few days after the approval of an agreement on energy security of the EU, the site of the German channel N-TV looked at the country’s consumption. And the results of his investigation are far from pleasant:

“Germany will have to reduce its gas consumption more than any other European country if it wants to reach the 15% reduction target set by the European Union.”

Even if Germany has considerably reduced its imports of Russian gas (26% of all its gas supplies at the end of July, against 55% before the war in Ukraine), the country remains dependent on the precious hydrocarbon.

To fulfill its commitments, Germany will have to save almost 10 billion cubic meters of gas between August 2022 and March 2023. This corresponds to the average annual consumption of 5 million German households.
