In the first half of the year, Germany added nine gigawatts of solar capacity, according to the Federal Grid Service, the regulator. “We are seeing a continued increase in solar panels in particular,” said Mr Claus Miller, president of the Authority. “Compared to the total production capacity at the end of 2023, 10% has been added, and two thirds of it came from systems installed in buildings, so also on balconies.”
Some of the panels are made by European companies, but most of them are produced in China, which allows them to sell them at reasonable prices that dominate that particular market.
