Forget Versailles for two minutes. And head east of the capital to discover another important castle: that of Vincennes. You will not regret it. If the two royal residences have in common to have seen the Sun King pass, no crush is to be feared in the historic monument of Val-de-Marne. Indeed, only 115,000 people visit it each year; when the Palais des Yvelines is stormed by 7 million tourists!
