The gift of chocolate cost the school teacher dearly

by times news cr

(Web Desk) Luang, the principal of a nursery school in Chongqing, China, had to lose her job because of a gift from a child.

Incidentally, Wang accepted a small box of chocolate worth 6.16 yuan (about Rs. 242) from a student and shared it with other children.

These chocolates are often given as gifts by children to their teachers on the occasion of “Teacher’s Day”, and around this day parents are interested in buying gifts for their children.

Wang’s actions were dismissed by the school as a violation of Ministry of Education rules, which prohibit teachers from accepting gifts or money in any form, so the school fired Wang.

Wang appealed the decision, which at a preliminary hearing declared the school’s dismissal illegal and ordered the school to pay compensation.

The court said that the chocolate was a symbol of love and respect of the student and the act of accepting the gifts by the teachers could not be explained.

After the decision, the school filed an appeal, but the No. 5 Intermediate People’s Court of Chungcheong rejected the appeal, causing the case to garner a lot of attention on social media.

Social media users expressed surprise and regret at the decision, with one user writing, “How strange is it to fire someone in exchange for six yuan of chocolate?”
