The girl’s mother shared the news on her Facebook account. She noticed her daughter’s swollen leg when she came to pick up the three-year-old from kindergarten.

“I took my sock off and saw that image. I saw two holes from which lymph flows. Those holes are not that big, but still two parallel ones next to each other. Just immediately the mind said snake and then thoughts – where could that snake come from in the nursery and (included – ELTA) confusion. Then I quickly took her in my arms, didn’t put on socks or anything and immediately took her to the reception,” the girl’s mother, Diana, told LRT RADIO.

According to Violeta Radžiūnienė, a children’s emergency doctor at the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital, even six children were stung by poisonous snakes this year. No such cases were recorded last year.

Doctors inform you that if you are bitten by a snake, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible and do not in any way suck the poison, reports LRT radio.

Violeta Kairevičienė, director of the Kindergarten “Užupiukas” for the portal lrytas.lt confirmed that this was indeed the case. According to her, it was a big surprise for the entire kindergarten community. Everything happened when the children were taken out into the yard, but neither the teachers nor the children claimed to have seen the snake – they learned about the incident when the girl started complaining of pain. Her mother was then informed about it. The territory of the kindergarten was carefully checked, but nothing suspicious was observed.

How does the head of the kindergarten think where the snake could have come from in their area? “I don’t know, but I heard rumors that they are crawling to the city center, warming themselves in the sun on the stones – apparently they have reached us too,” said V.Karpavičienė, admitting that the entire kindergarten community felt uncomfortable after this incident.

Naturalist, reptile breeder Gerard Paškevičius said he has one version of the event. “In Užupy, as in other residential areas of cities, there are no suitable conditions for snakes to breed and live permanently. I think that at a time when people are transporting firewood from the forest, they might have brought some kind of viper with those stumps. Or another version – it could have been brought from the forest by some mushroom picker, of which there is no shortage now, who planned to release it in the city and cause chaos.

Well, the girl must have accidentally bitten on the coal, and it bit her – vipers themselves don’t really attack people”, explained G. Paškevičius.

When asked if it could be that it was not a viper, but some exotic snake that escaped from the terrarium, the naturalist said that it is very unlikely – there are very few poisonous exotic snakes in Lithuania, and their breeders are very careful.
