Kasaragod: A 19-year-old girl was gang-raped for borrowing money to eat because she couldn’t bear her hunger. The girl who sought help was first molested by a local youth. The girl then told the police that he took her to many places on the pretense of love and used her sexually and shared her with others.

Kasaragod police registered a case of gang-rape by giving drugs and seduction. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident. Patla J. Shainithkumar (30), N. living in Uliathattukka quarters. Prashant (43) and Mokshit Shetty (27) of Uppala Mangalpadi were identified by Inspector P. Arrested by a team led by Chandrika. The incident took place in Vidyanagar police station limits.

The accused abused the girl by exploiting her economic disadvantage. The girl stated that she was taken to places like Cherkala, Kasaragod, Mangaluru and Thrissur and was tortured singly and in groups. The complaint also states that he was tortured once by giving drugs. The girl disclosed the details of the harassment during the counseling conducted when she sought treatment at the hospital due to health and mental problems caused by the continuous harassment. Then the Kasaragod women police started an investigation. As the investigation progresses, the police indicate that more arrests will be made.
