The Solntsevsky Court of Moscow sentenced Valeria Bashkirova to five years in a settlement colony in the case of an accident at a pedestrian crossing in Moscow, as a result of which one child was injured and two more children died. This is reported by TASS with reference to the city prosecutor’s office.

“Taking into account the position of the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office, the Solntsevsky District Court sentenced Bashkirova to five years in prison with serving a sentence in a colony-settlement, with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of two years and six months,” the department said.

On July 16, 18-year-old Bashkirova, driving a Mazda car, did not give way to pedestrians at an unregulated pedestrian crossing and hit children. Two of them later died. Bashkirova is charged with part 5 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of the road by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence), which provides for up to seven years in prison. Earlier, the girl was charged under Part 3 of the same article.

On July 17, the court sent the girl under house arrest, but the prosecutor’s office demanded to tighten the preventive measure. Later, the Tverskoy court sent Bashkirova to a pre-trial detention center.
