Many families teach their children to read from a young age. Few, however, should expect that, when they grow up and become twenty years old, they will be a writer or a writer. In the house of Gordillo Puertas, in Girona, what happened to them with Adrià and Clara was better. He, born in 2003, published a few months ago the first book, Detrás de mis ojos; and he, since 2007, has received many awards, such as the last two school flower awards, which he has been invited to read at the Night of Poems in September.
He is seventeen years old, and it will be the first time that he reads his work in this kind of act. However, he doesn’t like hearing very much, “I want someone else to read for me”. Adrià Gordillo would be happy to do it and he already knows what his sister did. Advice is always sought and words are revealed for thought. Neither one nor the others, of course, dare, for periods of time, to set foot on the land brothers. “I, with poetry, will not know”, he said, while he had started with short stories, “at the time” he did not see himself in the mind of making a book “with as many details as yours”. Time to try it, rai, because they will already have it.
Clara Gordillo will certainly be the one who gives herself the most to him. After the summer, he will start the second year of the Baccalaureate (people) and, after finishing, he wants to study a double course in Catalan and Hispanic Philology that the University of Girona starts next year. “I would like to be part of the literary world of the city,” he explained. Getting to know him will not be a problem, because now he prepares a Research Study in which he conducts a general study of Girona literature, interviews writers such as Maria Mercè Roca or Miquel Fañanàs and writes a collection of his own poems dedicated to to Girona. “What you do is good and I insist that you try to be published”, said his brother, who already has a track record of finding a publisher.
Grandparents’ sofa
Detrás de mis ojos appeared in Spanish last April by Ápeiron Ediciones. Although publishing does not worry him (“I write for myself, because I like it”) and he wants to devote himself to the world of economics (he studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), he sends a text to many Catalan and Spanish Publishers and this one bought. Now he wrote another book, but “a little bit, because I did the second one in five or six months”. In addition, all from the same armchair in the grandparents’ house. “If something comes to mind, or when I have classes in September and October, I will write something down, but I have support there.”
Gordillo’s novel explores “how long the human mind can last”, in this case, that of a librarian with a job who escapes the world by reading but cannot forget his dark past. Each chapter has the title of the author and a quote from him as an epilogue. “They depend on their stories, on how they write … always a small symbol” which is understandable “because of the work of the protagonist and because it is a different touch that I want to try”, he said, in the assurance that “a book is of many books and of what man has lived.”
A sports class
From poetry, Clara Gordillo accepts and cannot say anything “that has not been experienced or heard”. He often does free verse without thinking too much, taking advantage of inspiration and giving himself, then, to review everything. So, the first thing he did was a story, during the pandemic, after encouraging himself with an exercise in an online Catalan class where they had to finish a story from the beginning. “When we put it together it doesn’t touch me or I don’t want to read it, but at home I have published it and I like it”, he admitted. Over time he turned to poetry.
“And my brother and I understand books as something important and natural,” he said, “in the family we exchange books and this unites us”. He also remembers how they studied with their mother as children and walked through the shops in Plaça Catalunya with their father where, he did not hide it, they also found a chrome.
