In a significant milestone for the economic development of indigenous communities in Guatemala, the Global Network of Indigenous Entrepreneurs, Guatemala Chapter; As an essential part of the World Indigenous Business and Enterprise Network (WIBN), it has left a significant mark on the economic progress of indigenous communities in Guatemala. On December 6, in an emblematic event held at the facilities of the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry, the Maya Business School, under the auspices of this network, held its closing ceremony, commemorating 307 students who have completed successfully fulfilling its demanding business program. REI, recognized for its comprehensive and indigenous approach, has been a driving force for those seeking to enter the business world. From the initial gestation of business ideas to the meticulous development of business plans, the Maya School has guided its students through various levels of learning, providing them with not only business skills, but also the critical importance of establishing solid strategic plans to guarantee the numerical strength of the companies.

Within the framework of this closing, specialized sessions were offered for entrepreneurs from previous cohorts, exploring fundamental areas such as export and marketing strategies, strengthening corporate identity and training in business policies, reflecting a continuous commitment to business evolution and growth.

The event had the presence and valuable participation of prominent personalities, including the vice minister of MSME-MINECO, Rodolfo de León, Philipp Freischhauer of the Hanns Seidel foundation, Hugo Us of the IDB, Evelyn Hernández and Alissa Moen of ANDE, as well as the prominent contribution from special guests. These key figures in government and business underlined the strategic importance of business education in the economic fabric of the country.

Simultaneously, a Christmas bazaar titled “Artisan Roots” was held, where businessmen and entrepreneurs trained at the Maya Business School exhibited their products and skills. This space was not only a showcase of business creativity, but also a palpable example of the positive impact that adequate education can have in promoting the entrepreneurial spirit and the economic sustainability of communities.

It is important to highlight that REI recognizes the cooperation and strategic support provided by entities such as the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Argidius Foundation, the Spanish Cooperation Agency – AECID, Cementos Progreso, ANDE, USAID, the Leopold Bachmann Foundation and the Chamber of Industry, whose contribution has been fundamental. for the success and continuity of this valuable initiative for indigenous business development in Guatemala.
