Kalki’s Ponni’s Selvan is the best-selling novel in Tamil after Tirukkural and Bharatiyar’s poems. Generations of Tamils have been studying. Like it or not, someone is telling the next generation to read.
Mani Ratnam’s team made the Selvan name and Kalki’s name of such a lady ‘Bakka’ completely and made it into hundreds of crores – something that MGR and Kamal Haasan could not do – but there was no thanks for putting the image of Kalki and putting a card in the beginning.

The second part of Ponni Selvan is not going to be shot alone anymore, it should have already been shot. Everything is just post-production work. So, all that is going to come is profit. Kundavai does not meet Aditha Karikalan in the novel. As per Sundara Chola’s request on screen, the two met and talked and even told the flashback story about Nandini from Karikalan. That is also correct. This is what happens when a novel becomes a movie. But is it enough to understand Adithan’s anger? He should also understand what he is talking about. There is no way to know the story unless you look closely. Everything is like a dream. Someone must have secretly told Vikram that this is Ponni’s Selvan Part One and not Pitamagan Part 2. How big a personality is Aditha Karikalan? What exactly is his politics? But he is just an obsessive caricature. In this, Vikram’s acting is on a different level and a crowd has started.
They have made the God who came to pass away. What does it mean to see any girl in the movie? Or is this overflow too necessary for the screenplay? It didn’t seem that way. Or have they assumed that the film should be like this? Is the Vandiya Devan throwing love arrows at anyone he sees, just as the checker does not know and the Shivalinga does not know? Nandini, Vanathi, Kundavai, Poonguzali… These absurdities can be seen once again by rewinding the moments when Vandiya Devan meets each of them and the verses spoken to them.

When going inside the palace and secretly meeting and returning, looking at Nandini, who mentions that there will be a treasury on the way, Vandiya Devan says that I have seen the diamond mine under what kind of taste? Fortunately, Kadabur Kandamaran’s younger sister Manimekalai (who falls seriously in love with Vandiya Deva in the novel and gives her up when she is unable) is not present in the film to see all these spectacles.
Yes, I don’t know if that Krishna and Kamsa came to dance so that Vanadi and Vandiya Devan would have a dance. What does this have to do with the Cholas? There is a song for God who came with flute. Nandini and Kunta escape, what will happen in the second part?
Aishwarya Lakshmi is one of the co-stars or cast in the film-story. But there is a scene where he is introduced, Silk Smith himself would have lost. Vandiya Devan came to tell me that I hesitate to apply because my friend Sentan Amuthan likes it. For those who haven’t read the story, why does he come all the way to the ocean to fall in love? It seems that the Senthan Amuthan-Poonguzhali episode has been left out in some editing.
Trisha looked radiant and beautiful in all the stunts performed by the film crew for the promotion. Besides, if you think that Trisha’s chance to play the all-powerful Kundavai is sheer luck, the film is a little, if not a lot, disappointing except for a few scenes. But Aishwarya Rai who comes as Nandini has solved that disappointment. Nandini is a very sharp character in the novel as well as in the film. Aishwarya has acted without fail. From the opening to the end (but don’t know why he didn’t show soap in the promos). It remains to be seen what the mute queen is going to do in the second part. The strong pillar of the Chola Empire and the leader of the forces, Periya Paluvetaraiyar (Saradkumar) spends most of the time in the film stripping Nandini of her jewelry, a pity.
It is a sin, even the Lord of Vandiya and the Lord of Grace. How great a hero is Vandiya Devan? Arulmozhi Varman, the Rajaraja Cholan, is the owner of what majesty? Both Karthi and Jayam Ravi are not suitable in the film. They look very delicate. Is this the body language for them? Kartio makes love plus comedy, Ravio looks like a spoiled rich man with a luxuriant body, are these war veterans? They might have seen Rajaraja Cholan’s film and Sivaji Ganesan’s walk once (Rana Dagupathi for Arulmozhi Varman, Vishal and Nani for Vandiyath Devan would have been good choices, but the market is more important). Alvarkadiyan Nambi was the personal confidant of Aniruttha Brahmarayar, the chief minister of the Chola government and a major participant in the affairs of the state. But now it seems that he will also be a great comedian; Jayaram seems to have been tortured.

The novel begins with Vandiya Deva’s commentary on Veeranarayana lake. Shouldn’t Cauvery have overflowed its banks in the Chola story? Where are the green basil fields of Thanjavur? Here all the characters are running and playing on the hill. Where did the Tirumala Nayak period pillars sprout when it was a Chola palace?
Cholas are in the names of the characters as it is, if you change the names of the characters, this film can be adapted to any country. Will they destroy the signs because it’s a pan India film, what?
How would fans have laughed if New York had been shown instead of Romapuri in a royal story because it was a universal film? Elsewhere in the film, Chola pride is rampant, it is up to the film crew to convey.
Music, screenplay – they talked a lot.
All these people want Kalki, no thanks; We want the riches of Ponni, not the soil of Tanjore; Want name, not pride; We want collections, we don’t want history… If someone asks, the written language is different and the screen language is different!
There is something to appreciate about the film, even if it is controversial, it has made history speak. Who, whose son, what was the golden age, who were the Cholas, what was the relationship, what was the enmity… not only the younger generation, but also the public from all walks of life are talking.
So many movies are coming, so many novels are turning into movies. Why is there so much criticism only about Ponni’s wealth? Yes, so many people here have read the novel, bonded with the characters and surfed. Not only the Cholas, but the novel itself, Kalki is considered a source of pride. What can you do when everything is torn on the screen? Perhaps if Mani Ratnam had taken a picture of Kini Selvan instead of Ponni’s Selvan, Guru, Ravana, the sea, the air space and the crimson sky would have passed this too.
