the government again challenged on the 1,200 euros minimum pension

by time news

The government is, once again, questioned by the opposition about the boost granted to small pensions. After the declarations of the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, according to which 40,000 future retirees will benefit, each year, from the minimum of 1,200 euros provided for by the reform, this figure continues to be questioned by Jérôme Guedj, deputy of the Socialist Party (PS) of Essonne and co-chairman of the Social Security Assessment and Control Mission. The parliamentarian sent a letter on Friday, February 17, to Mr. Dussopt asking for clarification: “Which service sent you this figure, on what date and, if not, how did you construct it, on the basis of what data? »he asks.

The approach of the elected is part of the controversy that has been raging for several weeks, about the increase in the minimum pension. The executive has undertaken to improve, under certain conditions, small pensions by means of an increase of up to 100 euros per month, the aim being to bring them to 85% of the net minimum wage – which will correspond around 1,200 euros gross at the end of the summer.

Throughout the debates at the Palais-Bourbon on the reform project, which ended Friday, February 17, at midnight, opposition deputies demanded that transparency be made on the number of people likely to receive this sum. Wednesday, February 15, on France Inter, Mr. Dussopt, claimed that among future retirees, there will be 40,000 who will pass, each year, “the milestone of 85% of the minimum wage”, as a result of the measures taken. He added that 250,000 individuals, already retired, will meet the same fate.

A table corner calculation, according to the deputy

But Mr. Guedj remained unsatisfied. This is why he took an initiative that caught the eye: as co-chairman of the Social Security Evaluation and Control Mission, he went on Thursday morning to the Social Security Department (DSS) – one of the ministerial administrations in charge of preparing the text – in order to obtain clarifications. A “unexpected visit” which he carried out with his colleague Cyrille Isaac-Sibille, Democratic deputy of the Rhône and co-chairman of this same Assessment Mission.

On the basis of the elements communicated by the DSS, Mr. Guedj apostrophized Mr. Dussopt, Thursday afternoon, during the discussion on the reform in the National Assembly. State services are not “not originally” the estimate relating to the 40,000 future beneficiaries of the 1,200 euros and “don’t know themselves” where she comes from, said the PS parliamentarian. There followed a vigorous exchange between him and the Minister of Labour. The latter maintained his explanations delivered to France Inter.
