The Government allocates three million euros for the ‘Cities of Science and Innovation’

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the Royal Decree by which the Ministry of Science and Innovation will allocate 3.1 million euros to the incorporation or renewal of local innovation agents in the municipalities of the ‘Network of Science Cities and Innovation’.

As indicated by the Ministry of Science, this investment is aimed at the incorporation or renewal of local innovation agents, who are professionals dedicated exclusively to the implementation of innovative policies in the municipalities of the ‘Network of Science and Innovation Cities’ .

For Diana Morant’s department, innovation “is a vector for the transformation of cities and the creation of more and better opportunities for its people, especially for young people”.

These agents are professionals dedicated exclusively to the implementation of innovative municipal policies such as digital innovation projects, sustainability plans, energy saving, circular economy, technological and social entrepreneurship, and innovation public procurement projects.

Thanks to this investment, the Government will finance up to 90% of the annual cost of local agents in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants; up to 75% in municipalities with between 20,001 and 100,000 inhabitants and up to 50% in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants.

NETWORK OF CITIES

Currently, 90 cities of all sizes are part of the ‘Network of Science and Innovation Cities’ or ‘Innpulso Network’, which is a forum for meeting and defining innovative local policies and a space where good practices are shared in the management of innovative policies and communication initiatives to transfer these projects to the public.

This network is an increasingly active agent for the promotion of innovative policies, such as the public purchase of innovation, support for SMEs and entrepreneurs, and the definition of innovation criteria. It also promotes and supports participation in projects in the context of European programmes.
