The Minister for Energy Transition is organizing a meeting next Tuesday to extend the sales operations at cost price.

The government wants to contain the surge in fuel prices at the pump. Saudi Arabia and Russia have reduced their oil production, which has caused a rise in prices. Consequence: the price of gasoline is sometimes ironed above the bar of 2 euros per liter. The government has therefore decided to convene all fuel distributors to take stock of the situation. On France Inter, Saturday, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the Minister of Energy Transition, explained that she intended to ask them “an effort of solidarity».

“Some distributors have made operations at cost price and I will ask them to extend this type of operation because I think that the French do not have the space to pay more for fuel and that is not the kind of subject on which these actors must make a significant margin», Pointed out the minister.

Last Thursday, it was Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of Economy and Finance, who asked TotalEnergies, the main fuel distributor in France, to extend beyond December 31, 2023 its cap on all fuels at 1.99 euros per liter. From now on, it is a question of requiring an effort from the entire profession.

On the other hand, the government does not intend to ask for effort… from the State, which is the main source of the cost of fuel prices. The various taxes indeed weigh about 60% of the price at the pump. And Bruno Le Maire has already warned that he is opposed to the idea of a tax rebate, that he does not judge “not responsible» in the current budgetary context.
