The Government calculates that the guarantees to buy a house will benefit 50,000 people

The Government estimates that some 50,000 people will be able to benefit from the ICO guarantee line announced this weekend by Pedro Sánchez to access a first home. This was confirmed by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, after the meeting held this Monday with the construction and real estate sector to transfer the need for “public-private collaboration” in the Executive’s plan to improve a stressed market for years.

The Council of Ministers is expected to approve the measure this Tuesday, which is based on guaranteeing 20% ​​of the mortgage on a first home for young people under 35 years of age with an annual income of less than 37,800 euros and for families with dependent children. “We have made that approximate calculation of beneficiaries of which tomorrow we will report with all the details,” said Minister Sánchez.

The intention is that the agreement between the ICO and the Ministry of Transport is signed “as soon as possible” to implement a measure that has been highly criticized by the purple wing of the Executive. The general secretary of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, criticized that “the PSOE proposes a measure to finance the entry of the mortgage that Botín and the PP have already done, and which failed in the United Kingdom. As long as it does not depend on Podemos, the PSOE housing proposals are contrary to the general interest. The entire housing law must be enforced.”

Just a few hours before the council of ministers in which the government partners will give their approval to the measure, the minister Raquel Sánchez insisted that “I do not share the message”, defending that the ICO guarantees are “one more measure that there is to assess in the set of all those that we are taking to go from a model of speculation to one in which housing is a right».

Sánchez insisted that it is “a good measure that cannot be read or separated from the rest”, explaining, however, that the Government “is clear that the solution to the problem involves building a public park for affordable housing, a park subject to permanent protection. In any case, he recalled that the reality is that there are not only problems in rental prices, but also “there are many who continue to want to opt for a home purchase.”
