The Government Council follows a presentation on the draft national report on the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination
Rabat – The Government Council, meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, followed a presentation on the draft national report, worth 19th, 20th and 21st reports, relating to the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, stressed, during a press briefing following the Council, that this presentation made by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, focused on the interaction of the Kingdom of Morocco with the UN human rights mechanisms during the years 2022 and 2023, the sustained pace and positive results of which were highlighted during the Government Council held on June 22, 2023.
In this context, the Minister recalled Morocco’s commitment to the preparation of periodic reports on the implementation of the recommendations resulting from these interactions, which was ensured by the interministerial delegation for human rights, which is working on developing a work program to monitor the implementation of all these recommendations.
Mr. Ouahbi also stressed that the submission and examination of national reports of the UN human rights mechanisms will maintain the same high pace, recalling that the next examination of the report combining reports 19, 20 and 21 relating to the implementation of the International Convention against All Forms of Discrimination by the relevant UN commission will take place on November 22 and 23.
Regarding the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Minister announced the organization by Morocco of two important events, the first concerning the regional summit on the role of security institutions in the prevention of torture, in partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, while the second concerns the official launch of the Arab Plan for Human Rights Education.
