With a very dry winter over the whole of France, and a record thirty-two days without rain, the recharge of groundwater tables looks very problematic, after an already historic drought last year, and the government is already considering restrictions on the use of water as of March.
The Minister for Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, convened the National Water Committee on the risks of drought on Thursday, February 23, before bringing together the prefects on Monday. The idea of such early restrictions is to try to avoid even more complicated situations as summer approaches.
