“The government is exterminating us”: A boy contracted the corona virus and developed a serious mental illness

by time news

A boy who was initially hospitalized for a mild case of the coronavirus developed severe psychosis a few days later. The boy was admitted to the hospital without being vaccinated and it was feared that the hospital was trying to poison him. He insisted that he could read the minds of about eight to 12 people

An unvaccinated 16-year-old boy was admitted to a UK hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties related to corona infection. Doctors thought oxygen treatment would not be necessary and he was released with antibiotics, according to a report published in the Medical Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

As his psychological illness worsened, perhaps unknowingly, he echoed the sentiments of many conspiracy theorists on social media, expressing concern about “the government coming to eliminate him.”

According to reports, the boy was “normal and well”, with no previous personal or family history of mental illness, when he began exhibiting strange behavior. This occurred just three days after he was released from hospital, leading to his readmission for a mental health crisis. Family members told doctors that he suddenly became paranoid and behaved strangely, talking in a crazy manner, cursing at his parents, and doing strange things. He insisted that he could read the minds of about eight to 12 people.

Upon his arrival, he broke a glass door at the hospital, believing that the hospital staff was trying to poison him, and in addition, he expressed suicidal thoughts. He also refused to allow doctors near him to perform an examination because he feared they would try to kill him. During a clinical examination, the doctors discovered that the boy was “staring at the ceiling”, believing that he could receive messages from a supernatural source, and that he had special powers that had been erased by the government, which was now “coming to get him”.

After being diagnosed with acute psychosis caused by Corona, the boy was required to stay in hospital for 28 days under the UK’s Mental Health Act after which he was allowed to leave, although he stayed voluntarily for more than a month while taking antipsychotic medication.

Doctors said he became “calmer” and improved with antipsychotic treatment. By the time the boy was released, he did not experience psychotic symptoms, and he was lucid enough to understand that he had developed a psychotic illness due to the corona virus, and he was also advised to continue the drug treatment for six months.
