The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, said that his government derives its legitimacy from the political agreement included in the Constitutional Declaration, and is committed to its outcomes, which stipulated that the government would end its duties by holding presidential and legislative elections and ending the transitional phase.

This came during his reception, today, Wednesday, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli, of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Acting Head of the United Nations Mission, Stephanie Khoury.

During the meeting, Dabaiba added that the government considers that the decisions taken by the Presidency of the House of Representatives do not change anything in the Libyan reality, and that they are positions issued by a political party struggling to extend the term for the longest possible period.

He pointed out that the unity government deals with repeated statements as a non-binding political opinion, and a form of freedom of expression for one of the political parties, as he described it.

For her part, Khoury stressed On the need to combine efforts to maintain stability, advance the political process, and chart a clear and agreed-upon path towards national elections under a unified government.
