The Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo, highlighted the importance of this billnoting that it is the first project presented in the new legislative period, which began on July 20. Cristo stressed that this initiative is a reflection of the commitment of President Gustavo Petro’s government to the Colombian countryside, Rural Reform and Agrarian Reform, aspects that are fundamental to closing the gaps between rural and urban areas of the country and promoting greater social equality.

“This project not only materializes the commitment to Comprehensive Rural Reform, but also reaffirms the Government’s willingness to advance in the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement with the FARC,” said Cristo. The minister also highlighted the presence of Senator Humberto de la Calle, who was the head of the negotiating team in the peace talks with the extinct FARC and He is currently a member of the First Senate Commission.

Cristo recalled that the regulation of agrarian jurisdiction is part of the first point of the Final Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict, a process that has gone through several legislative stages, beginning with the Legislative Act, followed by the Statutory Law, and now culminating with the Ordinary Law.

We hope that by next year we will have agrarian judges in Colombia. It is surprising that, after so many years of conflict, we still do not have them. This is a crucial step forward that will allow us to resolve the conflicts in the Colombian countryside, which have lasted for decades.“, concluded Minister Cristo.
