An additional 5.5 billion rubles will be allocated from the government reserve fund to support the preferential mortgage program. This order was signed on December 10 by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, according to the website of the Cabinet.

The authorities estimate that the measure will improve the living conditions of at least 622,000 citizens. It was decided to allocate additional funds in connection with the increase in the key rate of the Bank of Russia, as well as with the current dynamics of the issuance of mortgage loans, the government notes.

The Preferential Mortgage Program was launched in 2020 as one of the measures to support Russians and the construction industry. It allows you to get a loan at a rate of 7% per annum for the purchase of housing or the construction of a private house, the difference between the preferential rate and the market rate is reimbursed by the state.

For all regions, the same maximum loan amount is set – 3 million rubles, and the down payment must be at least 15% of the cost of housing. The preferential mortgage program will operate until July 1, 2022.

The preferential program “State support 2020” must be extended after July 2022, at least for certain categories of citizens, said the chairman of the board of Sberbank, German Gref. According to him, the preferential mortgage “showed very good effects,” and the program is beneficial for the state.

Initially, the measure made it possible to take a mortgage for the purchase of housing in a new building at a rate of up to 6.5% per annum. The maximum loan amount was RUB 12 million. for Moscow, St. Petersburg and their regions and 6 million rubles. for other regions. The program was supposed to end by November 2020, but the government decided to roll over the measure by changing its terms.
