Sources from the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance have confirmed this information.

A high-level source in the Financial Institutions Department has confirmed that the proposal to amend the Bangladesh Bank’s order regarding the removal of the age limit for the appointment of the governor will be placed in today’s advisory council meeting.

It should be noted that Dr. Ahsan H. Mansoor has had an illustrious career. He completed his graduation in economics from Dhaka University in 1974. He joined Dhaka University as a lecturer the following year. He completed his Masters in Economics from McMaster University in 1977. And in 1982, he did his PhD from the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Mansoor joined the International Monetary Fund in 1981. He worked in the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund from 1983 to 1989.

He was appointed Finance Minister Wahidul Haque in 1989 and served till 1991. From 1996 to 2007, he served in the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund. He is currently the chairman of BRAC Bank.
