The Greens appoint their state secretaries, the SPD is silent

Berlin – After the final approval by the vote of the members of the left, the new red-green-red Senate takes on more and more shape.

While the SPD continues to keep a secret about the occupation of its government posts and does not want to announce it until this Monday, the Greens have already given the names of the seven state secretaries assigned to the three Green Senate members. The most prominent name is that of Barbro Dreher. The 63-year-old former State Secretary in the Senate Economic Administration under the resigned Ramona Pop is moving to finance to the new Senator Daniel Wesener. Jana Borkamp is to become the second state secretary besides Dreher, most recently head of the accommodation department at the State Office for Refugee Affairs.

The Greens have planned Armaghan Naghipour (science) and Thomas Götz (health) for the newly tailored science and health / care / equality department headed by Ulrike Gote. The fully qualified lawyer Naghipour was previously the personal advisor to Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt. Götz is, among other things, a specialist in public health and will primarily take care of dealing with Corona.

Green top candidate Bettina Jarasch, who wants to become the environment and transport senator and mayor, is standing alongside her spokesman Markus Kamrad as state secretary for consumer protection. The planned state secretary for the environment is Silke Karcher, previously head of division in the Federal Environment Ministry. Railway manager Meike Niedbal is to become State Secretary for Transport.

On the left, the names of the three senate members are known: Klaus Lederer wants to remain Senator for Culture and Mayor, Katja Kipping is to become Senator for Social Affairs and Labor, and Lena Kreck is to take over the justice department.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives should elect Franziska Giffey (SPD) as the first woman in office to be the governing mayor. After they have been sworn in by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Dennis Buchner, Giffey appoints the Senate members, who are then also sworn in by the President.

In the session, Parliament will also decide on an epidemic emergency. This would give the new Senate the legal basis for possible further corona measures. The old Senate passed the proposal at its last meeting last week.

In addition, the parliament wants to elect the Berlin members of the Federal Assembly, which is to meet on February 13 of next year for the election of the Federal President.
