The Greens make it too easy for themselves

by time news

It is true that the matter became known last year and therefore not a new scandal. The controversial and now repaid corona bonuses from the Green Federal Center were already an issue during the election campaign.

But it’s still not an old thing, even if the Greens are now acting as if the investigations by the public prosecutor’s office weren’t a big deal. But it is. After all, it is about the initial suspicion of disloyalty to a governing party. And above all against a party that has made morality in politics one of its standards.

So one might expect a bit more than the tight-lippedness that their leaders are now showing. The party leader who is still in office says that all of this is already known, the future party leader says nothing at all. One would like to know what drove the Greens bosses to not only pay party employees a tax-free corona bonus, but also themselves.

Ricarda Lang, who wants to lead the party together with Omid Nouripour from next week, was not yet a member of the Bundestag at the time, but a student without a mandate. In terms of income, she would be much more likely to be granted the 1,500 euros than the well-off deputies Habeck and Baerbock. But she could still say something about it. Honestly, the Union would be much less likely to get away with such a ducking tactic. In that case, the websites would be full of critical comments. So far, the Greens have gotten off a lot lighter.

Even if this is more of a scandal: the actions of the green party executive were by no means irreproachable, at least politically.

Dealing with it makes things worse.
