While there are heated debates in the Knesset committee about the election date, which will be agreed upon by both the opposition and the coalition, Torah Judaism chairman MK Moshe Gafni entered into a consultation with Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Gershon Edelstein on the issue.

Gafni presented the Rosh Yeshiva with the considerations and election dates, when the Rosh Yeshiva decided that the desired date for him was Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Kikar Hashabat has learned that one of the considerations facing the decision of the GRG is the desire that there will be no cancellation of Torah – because of the election, and therefore the GRG insisted that the election be held between the times of Sukkot.

As will be recalled, and as extensively reported in Kikar Hashabat, the Knesset members of Degel HaTorah who entered the Rosh Yeshiva’s residence heard the call from him to “do everything to prevent going to the polls.”

“The head of the yeshiva repeatedly repeated the call that there would be no elections, that is, to do everything to form a government in the current Knesset, in case the government does fall,” a senior Degel HaTorah official said in a conversation with Kikar Hashabat. As stated, the Rosh Yeshiva also maintains now that there is no need to go to the polls, but if the walk is unavoidable, the elections must be held on the date mentioned.

In the last hour, after the GRG’s decision, MK Gafni announced to former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “We are making every effort to prevent these unnecessary elections, and if we do not succeed then the agreed date is L. Tishrei.”
