The Guillermo Gaviria Correa IE, from Manrique, begins a reference model in leadership

by time news

At the Guillermo Gaviria Correa educational institution in Manrique, the culture of peace begins. What is it about? Uniminuto University, in honor of the legacy of Father Rafael García Herreros, created a Leadership Model to transform its territories. And, some public schools in Medellín will benefit.

With this initiative, the Minuto de Dios University Corporation seeks to “sow hope” and, with this project, a “leadership model aimed at promoting a culture of peace based on the principles of human rights and non-violence.”

Miguel Alejandro Barreto Cruz, PhD in Educational Sciences and professor of the Master’s in Education at Uniminuto, explained:

“At the university we saw a need felt by educational actors to link social problems to an ethical education with values from the Family-School link. Based on this need we identified an ally, the Mahatma Ghandi Foundation, and from there we designed the project.”

It is located in the Manrique neighborhood, Jardín, a territory that has witnessed displacement, violence and social problems that seem to have no solution. “And that is the challenge, to see how a challenging context can be impacted through education,” said Miguel Barreto.

With the experience of this IE, we hope to leave a model so that other public schools and social organizations can have a guide of leadership and culture of peace. This is in addition to a mural that the students themselves will build.

  • “Working with Uniminuto has been very important because we can see the students, teachers and all the staff of the Educational Institution learning, we can train ourselves more thanks to this great legacy that they leave us. The students have become mediators and today they are the architects of a better school coexistence,”

said Elkin Alonso Soto, coordinator of the Guillermo Gaviria Correa educational institution.
