The Gulf Cooperation Council affirms its support for the “Libyan-Libyan” solution and Security Council resolutions

The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed the GCC’s position in support of the Libyan-Libyan political solution and Security Council resolutions.

In the closing statement of the 61st session of the Ministerial Council, the Cooperation Council renewed its keenness to preserve the interests of the Libyan people, achieve security, stability and development in Libya, and ensure its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The statement also stressed the need to stop interfering in Libya’s internal affairs, withdraw all foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libyan territory, and support the efforts of the United Nations to reach a political solution, hold elections and unify state institutions to achieve what the Libyan people aspire to.

The Ministerial Council welcomed the statement issued by the second meeting of the members of the House of Representatives and the State Council, which was held in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and stressed the need to hold presidential and legislative elections and form a single new government, and called on the international community to support national consensus.

The Ministerial Council also called on all parties in Libya to prevail wisdom and reason and adopt political dialogue to resolve differences in a way that preserves Libya’s supreme interests, stressing the position of the Council’s countries in support of the State of Libya and the political path and relevant Security Council resolutions in a way that preserves its security, stability and sovereignty.
