The… half of the Colossus took out the soul of Panathinaikos in Kallithea, with the “greens” forcibly winning 79-74 against the incredible “seamen”, who fought without Goudlock, Polei and Billy. Panathinaikos… was “unleashed” by Grigonis, who was unstoppable and even hit the lucky three-pointer (with a board) to make the score 71-73. Kouros Segura’s team was excellent, they extracted the… oil of the “clover” and almost achieved the biggest victory of the year. With Perantes, Sitou and Brajkovic, Kolossos directly threatened Panathinaikos and if they were a little luckier, they would get the third victory in their history against the “clover”.
Panathinaikos made a very good start in Kallithea and with 2/2 three-pointers from Grigonis and Mitoglou took a 0-6 lead (1′)… The “greens” entered the floor hot (5-11 in 3′), but with Kolossos to quickly approach 11-13 (5′) with polyphony in scoring. Ergis Ataman’s team found solutions and escaped with 12-19, but the “Sea” had a very good presence and came back (18-21 in the 9th minute and 22-24 in the quarter).
In the second quarter, Kolossos continued to be… “annoying” and equalized 24-24 (11′) with an effort by Koloveros, while he went ahead with a nail by Sitos (27-26 at 13′)… The “sea” made 31 -28 to overtake Panathinaikos with Slukas (31-32 at 16′), who were playing “off” and without energy. After 34-34, the “greens” escaped with +5 (35-40) to end the half with 37-40 and the Rhodesians having a very good presence, led by Simi Sitou, while Panathinaikos’ Marius Grigonis, who even renewed his contract for the next three years.
In the third quarter the “clover” showed a willingness to escape with Grigonis and Lessor (37-48 at 22′), but Kolossos responded with a 10-1 run and reduced the score to 47-49 (25′), finding solutions with Petropoulos and Brajkovic. Panathinaikos had a small lead (51-55), but then Perantes took action, who with consecutive points and a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter made it 62-57.
In the last period the game was of course a derby with Kolossos being simply EXCELLENT! Kouros Segouras’ team led 64-60 and 67-63 with Papadakis’ three-pointer. The home team held firm (69-66 at 35′) and even led 74-73 (1.22′ before the end). At the most critical point of the match, Nan, Lessor and Grigonis “ran” a 0-6 streak for Panathinaikos (the Lithuanian earlier scored an improbable three-pointer), Kolossos was off target and the “greens” went through fire and iron from Rhodes, winning with 74-79. Panathinaikos won, but Kolossos clearly won the impressions…
