The half moon in the night sky…

In this high-altitude photo, we can see what appears to be the crescent in Earth’s night sky.

However, the land below is not from the Earth but, precisely, from the Moon. And the half moon is actually the half earth.

The photo was taken on July 29, 1971 during the Moon flyby during the Apollo 15 mission, in which astronauts David Scott, Alfred Worden, and James Irwin traveled to our natural satellite. While Worden remained in the command module orbiting the Moon, Irwin and Scott descended to the surface in the lunar module and dispersed on foot and also in a lunar car. Afterwards, the three reunited in orbit and returned to Earth together. (Source: NYT of Amazings)
